Female Siberian Indian Dog

Born 11/25/2008

Update:  June 20, 2010

Winnie is doing great!  She loves running around in the yard and playng in the water!  Winnie started asking to spend the night outside a few weeks ago.   She started asking as soon as we went to bed and turned the lights out, but at least now she asks before we actually go to bed.  She does that by putting her paw on Allan's foot and staring at him.  If that doesn't work, she'll bark at him.  If that doesn't work, she'll come to me and bark.  And when we take her out, she heads straight for the kennel.  Hemi goes with her of course, for company, and he's good with it either way.  It is cooler outside usually and they like that.  We'll see if they decide to spend the night in when it gets cold again.

Happy Birthday to Winnie who was 1 year old on November 25th!

Here are some pictures of Winnie at a year old.  As you can see she is quite the beauty.  She and Hemi are now best buds.  Good thing too considering how big Hemi's getting.   So, on to the pictures.

Update:  November 8, 2009

Winnie at almost a year old (Nov. 25th is her birthday).  She is now 25" high at the shoulder and weighs 48 pounds.  Winnie is just a delight!  She loves to play, she's great with other dogs and is super smart.  She's also a wonderful watch dog and is quite protective of her family without being aggressive.  She readily shares her toys and food with Hemi.  In the pictures below Winnie is in the kennel outside and "working" for treats in the kitchen.  While Allan is teaching Hemi how to "Give me 5", Winnie offers up her paw, while she sits patiently waiting for her turn.  Then Allan asks her to "lay down" and goes "Pow pow" with his finger and Winnie plays dead.  Gotta love it!

Winnie Photos at 7 1/2  Months - 53 Pounds

Just thought you all might like a few photos of Winnie's first boat ride.  We went out on Lake Bomoseen (VT) for the 4th of July and watched the fireworks from the water.  She enjoyed the boat.  As for the Fireworks, at first, Winnie was interested in the display, then she got bored and took a nap.

Well, Winnie is growing up and her growth is slowing down. I expect she'll gain maybe another inch or so in height and maybe another 10 to 15 pounds when she's completely mature.  She is FINALLY starting to blow her puppy coat!  Yeah!  Although that means white hairs on dark clothes for the moment, by keeping her brushed and spending lots of outdoor time she'll shed it out quicker.  She'll now play dead (most of the time), when we ask her.  We've had her off-leash in our yard (not fenced) and she shows no interest in going anywhere, other than over the cliff to the brook for a stroll through the water and a drink before she climbs back up.  For those of you anxiously waiting for news of a male, we have a few choices from Majestic View.  All seem wonderful, but we really need to see them, their temperaments and characteristics.  So it's road trip time soon.

UPDATE: April 20, 2009 - Photos at 5 Months (40 pounds)

Winnie went on a road trip to New Jersey for Easter.  Her first trip to someone else's house, which included an 11-Month old standard poodle, Cleo.  They had a blast, playing with toys, wrestling and stealing each others food and bones.  I'll post some photos of the two of them when they're sent to me.  Winnie saw her first green grass and flowers (born 11/25 in Michigan, no leaves, flowers or green grass).  Winnie's latest game is to "play ball" with me by rolling the ball to me with her paws or her nose, then waiting for me to roll it back.

and for those of you who are wondering, the water is very cold, still getting some run-off from the mountains and air tempterature is about 58 degrees.  The brook is 3-4 feet deep toward the middle.  The water is always exceptionally clear and the green tinge is the color of the rocks on the bottom showing through.  This area is known for its Vermont slate which varies from gray to blue to green to purple.

        13 Weeks                                    9 Weeks
Winnie has been spending her week days at Happy Paws, our local doggie day care.  (Check out the article at: http://www.rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080406/NEWS01/804060371/1002/NEWS01) She has tons of friends, big and small.  Happy Paws has lots of furniture for the dogs to sleep on, especially when they close for an hour every day, after lunch, for nap time (no kidding).  They even have a cat.  Winnie gets to use the doggie door to go out and play in the huge yard whenever she wants and it's where she spends most of her time.

At home, Winnie is either very good .... or very bad.  Ah, puppies.  Winnie loves her rawhide bones, stuffed duck, kong (the very good);  playing in her water bowl and chewing any paper, socks or shoes she can get (the very bad).  She really did eat my homework!  Actually, she just likes to tear it into small bits that go everywhere.  She also likes to have her belly rubbed and sleeps on her back with all paws in the air.  Her favorite time is dinner.  She spends her time with us in the kitchen, patiently waiting for her bowls to be filled.

                                                    14 Weeks

(the picture's not the best, it was a camera phone shot).  And yes, she IS sleeping in her bowl.  At her 12 week check-up with the vet, she had gone from 15 pounds to 22 (that's in 4 weeks).  She has no fat on her at all though.  The Vet feels that she has a great disposition for breeding.  We agree.

She's learned a number of commands already.  She can sit, shake (give me five), knows down, up and come.  She will fetch and if you ask her to "get your bone" or "where's your duck?", she will try to find the right thing and get it.  She can't always remember where she left her toys so sometimes she can't find them, but she knows which are which.  We can also trim her nails with the pedipaws.

Well, that's it for now.  I'm going to try to get some video soon.  I think my camera will do that.  We'll keep you posted.

 She's Here!

And too cute for words.  Winnie has an awesome disposition; curious, playful, friendly, affectionate, very smart, loves playing and pouncing, especially outside in the snow.  Winnie is everything we'd hoped she'd be.
