It’s official, we made tracks….  Breton Brook Indian Dogs has moved to Cape Cod, MA!

 ABOUT US

We are authorized breeders of Siberian Indian Dogs (SIDs), a rare hybrid cross between a Native American Indian Dog (NAID) and a Siberian Husky.

NAIDs are a registered breed with the National Kennel Club (NKC) and Siberian Huskies are a registered breed with the American Kennel Club (AKC).  A hybrid is a cross between two registered parents with many generations of registered ancestors, and the puppies can be registered with several registeries that recognize pedigreed hybrids as well as by the Siberian Indian Dog registry.

Breton Brook is also proud to be the only authorized East Coast breeder of these wonderful dogs!

While many people are familiar with the Siberian Husky, most know little about the Native American Indian Dog. The Native American Indian Dog® (NAID®) is being selectively bred to recreate the appearance and versatility of the original dogs of Native Americans.  Dogs were the only beast of burden utilized by Native Americans before the Spaniards introduced the horse in the mid 1500's and were an integral part of village life.  Dogs would pull a travois carrying the family's belongings, hunt and fish, and were "babysitters" for the children and elderly when the women were off hunting berries and herbs.

Historical documents authored by missionaries, trappers, explorers and entrepreneurs recorded what life was like for the "Natives" and their dogs and many included drawings, paintings and photographs.  It is upon this documentation that the breed was founded and then the name was trademarked by Mrs. Karen Markel, Majestic View Kennels, in the mid-1990's.

The NAID® today has proven to be a nationally recognized and registered dog breed exhibiting traits the Native Americans admired in their ancestral dogs.  They are highly intelligent, versatile, enjoy extended longevity, and are hypoallergenic.  They are used as excellent hunting companions, therapy dogs, handicap assist dogs, Search & Rescue animals, weight competition draught pullers, skijoring dogs, and are exceptional family companions.

-------------------------

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the Siberian Husky is believed to have originated with the Chukchi Tribe off the eastern Siberian peninsula.  Huskies were used in 1908 for the All-Alaskan Sweepstakes, which was a 408 mile long dogsled race as well as serving in the Army Artic Search & Rescue Unit during World War II.  They continue to be used for recreational pulling competitions today.

The Siberian Husky is typically affectionate but not fawning. The Chukchi people held their dogs in great esteem and their children played with them.   The Siberian Husky is alert, adaptable & his intelligence has been proven, but his independent spirit can be challenging.  The Siberian Husky is noted as an "easy keeper," requiring a relatively small amount of food for his size.

---------------------------

The combination of the Siberian Husky and the NAID to create the SID hybrid is a natural combination of both northern tribal working dogs. The NAID passes on many of its traits including its hypoallergenic characteristics, its longevity and sweet disposition and its distinctive wolf-like appearance and tempers the predatory instincts that can create problems between Huskies and other small animals, such as cats, while the Husky adds to the SIDs intelligence, agility and endurance, while reducing its overall size and weight.  Together they create the Siberian Indian Dog!

Used for therapy, search & rescue, weight and draught pullers, skijoring and more, this beautiful, loyal, hypoallergenic dog is ideal for active families, those with children or who enjoy outdoor sports and activities or just want an intelligent, unique and devoted companion.  SIDs get along with other dogs of all sizes, in fact, as a highly social dog, they need companionship to be happy and healthy.  Also as a breed that is designed to work, the SID needs at least moderate exercise to avoid boredom and stay fit.

The SID is hearty, social, very loyal to family members and are excellent with children.  Most are excellent watch dogs, but not guard dogs, as they will alert owners to strangers by barking.  SIDs are not dog-aggressive with other breeds of dogs and usually a stern "NO" will stop them in their tracks.

SIDs are registered with:

        • Siberian Indian Dog Registry
        • International Designer Canine Registry
        • American Canine Hybrid Club

The SID is considered a hypoallergenic hybrid due to the hypoallergenic characteristic of NAIDs.  To maintain that quality, Breton Brook breeds SIDs with a high NAID content.

There are only a handful of
authorized breeders of Siberian Indian Dogs and
all breeders must be authorized by Majestic View Kennel in Lowell, Michigan
or the puppies cannot be registered as Siberian Indian Dogs.

For a list of approved breeders visit the Native American Indian Dog Breeders Association Page:

If you contact another breeder from this list, please mention that Breton Brook referred you, thanks!

Please do not confuse these dogs with American Indian Dogs, which are a dingo/coyote/Australian Kelpie mix.  Also, beware of dogs being called a "village" or "camp" dog as these are not Native American Indian Dogs either, but various mixes.  There are some breeders selling mixed breeds of dog as "Native Dogs" or "Siberian Indian Dogs". In addition, there is also one breeder selling the "North American Indian Dog" which in reality is likely a high content wolfdog.  Being informed and aware is very important.  Please make sure you are getting a true Siberian Indian Dog and all of the wonderful qualities that come with them, by purchasing your puppy from an approved breeder.  Always ask If the pup can be registered with the Siberian Indian Dog Registry.
